What's good for young children near Limavady?

More about Limavady

Limavady has given the world one of its best-loved melodies. In the mid-19th century a local woman, Jane Ross, wrote down a tune she heard from a passing fiddler; that "Londonderry Air" later became the song "Danny Boy." A plaque marks her old home on Main Street.

The town's name comes from the Irish for "leap of the dog," after a legend of a chieftain's dog leaping a river to raise the alarm. Just southwest is the beautiful Roe Valley Country Park along the River Roe, and the town was also the birthplace of William Massey, who went on to become Prime Minister of New Zealand.
