Plan your visit

Fly a hawk from your own glove

This is close-contact falconry, not a zoo viewing. On a hawk walk a handler brings you out with a trained bird, fits you with a glove, and shows you how to call the hawk back to your fist for a tidbit of food. You'll meet a mix of owls, hawks and falcons and learn how each one hunts and flies. Beginner sessions go a step further into the handling and flying basics. Because the birds are live and the work needs concentration, sessions tend to suit children who can listen and stay still, so check the minimum age when you book.

Good to know before you go:

Many farms are seasonal and busiest in spring lambing and the school holidays, so it’s worth checking opening times before you travel. These are working livestock farms, so pet dogs usually aren’t allowed (assistance dogs excepted), and a few take cash only — so bring a little with you.

Before you set off

What to bring

  • 👢Wellies or sturdy shoesFarmyards and paddocks get muddy, especially after rain.
  • 🥪Snacks or a picnicThere’s usually a café, but little ones get peckish between the animals.
  • 📷A cameraBottle-feeding a lamb and the pedal-tractor grins are worth keeping.
  • 💷A bit of cashSome farms are cash only, and animal-feed cups are pocket-money priced.

The story

About Echo Echo Falconry

Echo Echo Falconry is a family-run falconry experience based on the Roe Valley near Limavady. It offers hands-on contact with birds of prey rather than a walk-round attraction, with owls, hawks and falcons handled and flown alongside an experienced guide.

The set-up centres on a handful of activities: hawk walks where you fly a bird out in the open, beginner sessions for those new to falconry, and seasonal display days. It sits close to Roe Valley Country Park, one of the north west's best-known walking spots, which makes it easy to combine with a riverside walk.

Because it is a small operation, details like prices, session times and facilities are best confirmed straight with the falconry when you book.
