Around 95 shops and places to eat, free parking for over 1,600 cars, and the whole thing five minutes from Bangor seafront — shop the shower away, then hit the pier when the sun comes back.

  • What you'll do — work the mall (M&S, Next, Boots, Menarys, a proper Waterstones), let the kids loose in Smyths Toys, then cross to the retail park for TK Maxx, B&M, Sports Direct and Pets at Home — the free "mini zoo" stop every small child insists on.
  • How long — a comfortable 2–3 hours for the mall, lunch and the retail park; pair it with the seafront and it's a full Bangor day.
  • Cost & parkingfree to browse, and the car park is free for the first 4 hours (£2.20 covers 4–6 hours), with over 1,600 spaces right outside the doors.
  • Come readySunday doesn't open until 1pm, and the mall and the retail park are separate buildings, so you'll cross the car park in whatever the sky is doing.
  • Food — quick and familiar rather than fancy: McDonald's, Burger King, Subway, Tim Hortons, Costa, Starbucks and the M&S café, plus the Bull & Bear Grill for a proper sit-down. Food-court seating fills fast at Saturday lunchtime — eat early.
  • When — weekday mornings are calmest; Saturdays are lively all day. There's a Quiet Hour every Thursday 6–7pm — lights dimmed, music and announcements off.
  • Mind the car park clock. Free parking runs to 4 hours and there's a 6-hour maximum stay — the car park is camera-managed, so a shop-then-seafront day means moving the car, not leaving it.
  • Put the full address in the sat nav. There's also a Bloomfield in east Belfast — aim for South Circular Road, Bangor BT19 7HB and you'll land at the right doors.

The centre is mid-glow-up:

New owners took over in 2024, renamed it Lesley Bloomfield, and have been opening new stores at a steady clip — with bigger expansion plans reported. Store line-ups and opening hours are shifting more than usual, so check the centre's website (or ring 028 9127 0797) before building a trip around one particular shop.

Questions

Before you go

Is it free to get in?
Yes — free to walk in and browse, seven days a week, and the parking is free for the first 4 hours too. You only pay for what you buy and eat.
How does the parking work?
Over 1,600 spaces, free for the first 4 hours; £2.20 covers 4–6 hours, and 6 hours is the maximum stay. The car park is camera-managed, so don't overstay — and confirm current rules on the centre's website on the day.
What time does it open on Sunday?
1pm — worth knowing before you set off. It runs to 6pm, though some stores (and the big Tesco) keep their own hours, so check current times for the shop you're after.
Is there anywhere to eat?
Plenty of quick options — McDonald's, Burger King, Subway, Tim Hortons, Costa, Starbucks, the M&S café — plus the Bull & Bear Grill for a sit-down. It's familiar fast food and coffee rather than a restaurant quarter, and seating fills at Saturday lunch, so eat early.
Is it good with a pram or a wheelchair?
Yes — the whole site is level and step-free, with baby changing on the M&S mall, breastfeeding welcome anywhere, free wheelchair and scooter hire (photo ID needed), and a Quiet Hour on Thursday evenings.
Is there a cinema or soft play?
No — it's shops and food. Bigger plans for the site have been reported since the 2024 takeover, but there's nothing extra to book today. For the fun half of the day, Pickie Fun Park and the seafront are five minutes down the hill.
Getting there

The story

The centre on the ring road that's getting a second act

Bloomfield sits on Bangor's ring road, where the town meets the countryside — a 1990s-built centre and retail park that grew into the everyday engine of North Down shopping. Three malls run off a central square, with the big M&S and Tesco Extra holding down either end, and the retail park rows stacked around the car park outside. It was never built to be pretty; it was built to be useful, and it's very good at that.

Then, in 2024, the place got interesting. The Herbert Property Group bought the centre — for a reported £22 million — and renamed it Lesley Bloomfield, said to be after the owner's wife. Since the takeover the new-store announcements have come steadily: a Waterstones, Menarys, Jack & Jones, a Bull & Bear Grill, and more signs going up each season. The owners have talked about expansion plans described locally as among the biggest investments Bangor has seen in a generation — nothing to visit yet, but a centre visibly on the up.

The everyday touches are quietly good too: a Quiet Hour on Thursday evenings with the lights dimmed and the announcements off, staff trained as Dementia Friends, free wheelchair and scooter hire, and free family events sprinkled through the calendar — Easter trails, St Patrick's celebrations, and Santa's Cottage with a Silent Santa option at Christmas in recent years.

The reason it earns a place on a days-out map is the geography. On its own it's a solid rainy-morning outing — warm, free to park, everything in one sweep. But it sits five minutes up the hill from one of NI's best family seafronts: Pickie Fun Park, the marina, Eisenhower Pier and the Walled Garden. Shop while it pours, then roll down to the water when the sky clears — that's the full Bangor day, and Bloomfield is the dry half of it.
